Farrer Park Transformation Guide

Farrer Park’s transformation concerns the wider neighbourhood around Dorset Gardens, not simply one private residential project. The useful questions for a buyer are what has been announced, who is delivering it, and which amenities can actually be used at the time of moving in.

What the official redevelopment plan covers

In April 2022, URA, HDB and Sport Singapore announced plans for an approximately 10-hectare site bounded by Dorset Road, Keng Lee Road, Hampshire Road and Race Course Road. The concept combined public housing with sports and recreation, including a central green, a jogging route and reuse of the former boxing gym. A new sports centre was planned in place of the old swimming complex. These are components of the announced plan, not a statement that the facilities are open. Read the original joint announcement.

Separate the housing and sports programmes

The Dorset Road residential site and the public neighbourhood programme should be assessed separately. A private project’s completion date does not establish when a neighbouring public facility will open. Likewise, an artist’s impression is not a final operating plan.

Sport Singapore’s 2025 update described the future ActiveSG Sport Park @ Farrer Park as being in design, with a swimming complex, sports halls, a play field and park zone among the facilities being explored. Use that dated statement as a planning reference, and look for subsequent operator announcements before relying on an opening date. See Sport Singapore’s update.

What changes could mean for daily living

New recreation spaces could broaden the places residents use outside their development. The practical benefit will depend on entrances, opening hours, booking rules and the route from home. Public facilities serve a wider community, so convenience should be judged alongside demand and access arrangements.

During redevelopment, existing routes can be affected by hoardings and works. On a site visit, record which pedestrian paths are usable today and which are shown only on future plans. Repeat that check when comparing different units or when the project releases updated access drawings.

Assess what is available independently of the plans

Start with the existing MRT connections and Pek Kio food and market options. For leisure, our sports and recreation guide distinguishes operator-listed facilities from the future sport park. This creates a realistic picture of life before every planned improvement is delivered.

Questions to bring to a viewing

  • Which nearby works are underway, and where are the current pedestrian diversions?
  • Which public facilities have an operator-confirmed opening date?
  • How do the proposed building entrances connect to existing streets?
  • Would the location still suit your routine if a future amenity opened later than expected?

Neighbourhood renewal can be relevant to a home purchase, but it does not establish future selling prices or rental returns. Compare the wider plans with the Dorset Gardens site plan, your own housing needs and the amenities you can already use.
